FAQS
WHAT IS DR. COLE'S SPECIALTY?
Dr. Amy Kay Cole holds a PhD in clinical psychology with expertise in the management of anxiety, trauma, mood impairment, and relationships. She specializes in the non-pharmacological treatment of anxiety disorders and depression. Dr. Cole conducts individual therapy sessions with adults as well as couples therapy.
WHAT KIND OF PRACTICE IS EPR?
Executive Psychological Resources (EPR) prioritizes privacy and confidentiality. Often, clinical experiences are associated with feared interactions in a crowded waiting room. Or, people avoid life development counseling because they are high functioning and "simply experiencing stress." You do not need a psychological disorder to benefit from psychotherapy. My emphasis is encouraging individuals to explore what's possible in order to achieve their best life. EPR is a small practice designed to provide psychological services in a calm, private setting.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
During your first session, we will start reviewing your background to get a sense of your priorities and life experience. We will discuss the areas that are going well in your life as well as the areas that challenge you. Those discussions help guide the development of goals. Reaching personal goals requires collaboration and a strong therapeutic alliance with your psychologist. The first meeting provides an opportunity for you to get to know Dr. Cole and ask questions. Your comfort and sense of trust are imperative in progressing.
DO YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?
Dr. Cole does not prescribe medication. Although sometimes essential, we work to address psychological struggles without pharmaceutical interventions. When necessary, clients are referred to competent psychiatrists in the community.
HOW SO I CANCEL AN APPOINTMENT?
You can cancel an appointment by calling or texting Dr. Cole. We require 24-hours notice for cancellation to avoid a $175 cancellation fee.
HOW DO I CONTACT YOU OUTSIDE THE APPOINTMENT?
I do not provide phone consultations unless previous arrangements have been made for a Skype/phone session. I use my text service for the purpose of scheduling appointments, but I do not discuss clinical issues via text messages.
DO YOU FILE INSURANCE?
No, I do not file insurance. Instead, I provide a Courtesy Bill which clients can file with their insurance company. Please know that a psychological diagnosis must be provided on the courtesy bill in order for reimbursement to be considered. Not all insurance companies accept courtesy bills. You will need to contact your insurance company to determine coverage.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The cost is $175 for 45-50 minute sessions. Payment is due at the time of service. I accept credit cards, checks, and cash. Clients receive a Courtesy Bill they can file with their insurance company for reimbursement. I do not file insurance directly.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
My office is located at 505 W. 2nd Street in downtown Joplin. The building is a few blocks west of Main Street. Ample street parking is available in front of the building. In addition, there is a private parking space behind our building for clients who prefer additional privacy.
